Ed Cebula, a native Elyrian, graduated from Elyria Catholic and Bowling Green State University. For 36 years he taught Art with the Elyria City Schools, spending the last 22 years at Elyria West, retiring in 1994. Along with teaching, Cebula has been a frequent exhibitor throughout Lorain County. In 1963 he received an grant from The American Council of Learned Societies for Continued Studey in Art at Oberlin College. He has traveled at length through Europe and the United States enriching his life long interest in art.
Cebula’s recent works are derived from Cubism, primitive art, as well as his own inner imagery. These sources come to full light with his recent oil pastels and monotypes. His art begins as small sketches which are then transposed to larger scale paintings, drawings, and prints. His works are characterized by layers of color and line which emerge to intensify his compositions. A strong sense of design is ever present, employing the use of geometric and organic line.
