Robert retired in 2018 and began painting again after a 40 year career working for consumer products companies in management. He is a resident of Westlake, Ohio and a lifelong sailor on Lake Erie. He holds a degree in Art Education from Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington.

He paints from his experiences. He takes many pictures and videos and pulls images and scenes from this material to create a painting. he also works from life, setting up outside to paint. All of these works are personal. All of these works were created because he enjoys the process of re-creating the scene and re-living the expereience. He sometimes duplicates a scene in more than one painting because he enjoys the process and wants to create a different feeling using the same image.

All of his works are in oil and on canvas and most are completed within one or two days. He approaches a painting as a whole, meaning all parts of the scene are painted together using the same palette and brushes and rendered together as a single work. Design, balance, and technique always play a part in every work.

Most of his subject matter comes from his time on and around Lake Erie. He is a frequent sailor of the Lake Erie Islands and enjoys visiting area parks and harbors looking for subject matter for his paintings. Scenes from his yard in Westlake have also provided a number of works, along with trips to New England and drives into Ohio farm land.

All of his works are framed in custom wood boarders that he builds and finishes.
